If you didn’t know, February is Plant Seeds of Greatness Month (it’s okay, I didn’t know either till I did some research). To me, planting the seeds of greatness means doing what you need to do now so you can, at some point, achieve the greatness you desire (and how you define greatness is totally up to you).

How do you plant those seeds?

  1. Create your vision plan for greatness. Once you’ve decided that you want to be great, and you’re committed to the journey, “see” how you will make it happen. Visualize it by closing your eyes and seeing, feeling, tasting, etc. how the greatness will be, create a vision board, and make a plan to get to that end result.
  2. Think less. Do more. It’s easy to get caught up in daydreaming about your future when you can’t wait for it to become a reality. And really, it’s not a bad thing per se because that’s visualizing. However, be sure that you’re being proactive, and taking effective action to accomplish your goals.
  3. Take small steps. Becoming great doesn’t happen overnight. Think about the amount of time it took Oprah, for example, to get where she is today. Plan your goals in small, manageable steps; you will get there.
  4. Surround yourself with positive people and mentors. Being around those who are positive and encouraging and having mentors you can model will help immensely on your path to greatness.
  5. Survive setbacks. When you hit a bump along the way, get up, figure out what went wrong, and keep it moving. As Oprah said, “…Failure is another steppingstone to greatness.”
