Penelope Girly: The Fashionista Edition

Arkeelaus D. Sherman is creative director of invitation and graphic design boutique Kee2Creativity. For more than five years, she has created custom stationery collections for fashion foward individuals and businesses who want to present their personal brands with flair.

Her latest venture is The Penelope Girly Collection journals, a magazine-styled series that are the perfect place to detail dreams. Expressive girls and women may record inspirational quotes and paste photos and clippings. Lined and blank pages also offer for everyone, from bohemian beauties to sophisticated sirens, a way to journal their way to confidence. Check out the interview FCG did with Arkeelaus to find out more about these fabulous journals!

For Colored Gurls: What is Penelope Girly?
Arkeelaus:
Penelope Girly is a personal style journal that allows you to collect thoughts that inspire love for self, beauty, fashion and passion. It allows you to be the cover girl of your life!

FCG: How did you come up with the idea for it, and why did you create it?
Arkeelaus:
My inspiration for Penelope Girly came from my passion towards girls, women and fashion. Some young women struggle as they go through the process of self-discovery and begin to take on the actions and personalities of their peers, trying to fit in and losing sight of who THEY are. Even as adult women, we go through situations that challenge our self-worth and confidence, and we have to dig deep to RE-discover our true love for self, and own it. Being in this situation as a girl and as a woman led me to create a journal for both that allows one to connect with self.

I am the mother of a teenage girl and these values, I instill in her so that she continues to have a great self-image and esteem into her womanhood and beyond. She isn’t 100 percent girly girl as she is most comfortable in high top Converse and a T-shirt, and that’s fine because she is comfortable in her own skin and owns it. However, she feels just as special in skinny jeans and boots. No matter what your style or personality, be you! A cover girl isn’t depicted by society; you are fabulous and should always be the cover girl of your life! The fashion-themed writing prompts are dedicated to encouraging positive self-image, esteem, and goal setting will help you embrace that.

FCG: Why do you feel that journaling is important?
Arkeelaus:
Journaling is important because it’s a way to truly document your feelings on paper. There are no judgments, no opinions, just you expressing your feelings. It’s a great way to build accountability and a reference point to go back and see where you were at that time in your life and possibly build upon that.

FCG: Can you tell us about the other journals that will be in the collection?
Arkeelaus:
Penelope Girly is every woman! This up-and-coming collection will feature several editions catered towards different styles and personality types, beginning with the fashionista issue. Future issues will include the Rock! Edition, geared towards edgy, free-spirited women and the Power Edition for independent, success-driven divas! While each issue is geared towards a different personality type, they will all portray inspirational, uplifting messages that push the users to reach their full potential!

FCG: What do you hope women gain by using the journals?
Arkeelaus:
Whether they discover something new about themselves or redefine their confidence and discover their passion, I want women to have a new sense of self and know that inner beauty and self-love makes you FABULOUS, not just the clothes you wear. Being yourself never goes out of style!

FCG: What are some of your future goals with Penelope Girly?
Arkeelaus: Penelope Girly will be expanding to note cards, personalized blank notebooks and a calendar.

FCG: Where can people get more information and purchase the journals?
Arkeelaus: Information regarding Penelope Girly can be found on my website, www.kee2creativity.com; you can purchase an autographed copy from the site or you can purchase the journal at www.amazon.com.
