In the June 2007 issue of “Essence,” Bishop TD Jakes provides fab advice to help you get started on the journey of getting the life you want and repositioning yourself. Here’s how:
- Imagine a new you. Repositioning is all about having a confidence in yourself that is rooted in faith and putting that faith to work. He gives the example of Queen Latifah who has repositioned herself several times– from rapper to actress to author to lots of other things. For you, it could mean making your side hustle a full-fledged business or deciding to pursue a degree at 40-years-old.
- Create your own change. I’m sure you know that life is constantly changing. What you may not realize, however, is the difficulties you go through aren’t necessarily the “final word on what you can become.”
“The past is not a death sentence,” Jacob says. “And deciding to go in a different direction than the one we’ve been taking doesn’t necessarily mean we’ve failed or didn’t finish a task.”
So, what does it mean? All it means is that you’ve found it more satisfying and beneficial to go in another direction. And even with the trials and changes of life, it’s important to listen closely to what God is trying to say to you about your specific tasks and assignments. - Know your power. Always remember that if you really want something, you can have it. And if you really want to do something, you can do it. Just truly believe that it’s possible and work at it. Don’t let anyone tell you you can’t do something because you’re a woman, because you’re from a certain town, because you’re young, etc.
- Take care of you. It’s important to take care of yourself while you’re repositioning yourself and making changes for the better. You have to make a conscious choice to make time for self-care in your schedule.
And remember, “It’s never too late to head out on a different route.”
