If you’re anything like me, that week before Aunt Flo gets here can be just…ugh. Headaches, being irritated, feeling lazy…the list goes on and on. Help is hopefully here- I found an article last night on Yahoo’s Shine with tips to help us deal with PMS:
Get some green veggies- They have a substance that can prevent extra buildup of estrogen which can trigger intense PMS and hormonal imbalances.
Exercise- This helps you work out any tension and helps maintain your weight.
Eat sweet potato(es)- They have antioxidants and hormone-balancing nutrients.
Drink lots of water- It’s recommended that you drink half your body weight in ounces everyday. Including lemon is detoxifying and great for your skin; it also helps with bloating.
Stay away from white flour and refined whole wheats- The sugar in it can harm your endocrine system (the one that controls hormones in your body). Try eating organic, nutrient-rich wholel grain breads and pastas.
Reduce your dairy consumption- Dairy can make your menstrual cramps and cause ‘digestive disturbances’ (like bloating). If you do want some diary, go for small quantities of organic dairy.
Do some hula hoops- Doing a three minute hip rotation everyday (like you’re swirling around a hula hoop) can maintain a healthy blood flow in your lower abdoomen and help with bloating and cramping.
