June & July

30 06 2009

So, it’s the end of the month, and you know what time it is on fcg.

*Le sigh* June wasn’t the best month in the world for work, I must admit. I had some personal issues- well, they weren’t that personal because it really had nothing to do w/me directly. My boyfriend and his fam was having some issues, and I felt I should be there because, well, he’s my boyfriend. Anyway, that’s my excuse reason. Not good, I know, but that’s a post for another day.

Anyway, in June I did:

  • Send 5 queries
  • Submit four DS articles
  • Send emails to 45 businesses
  • Apply to numerous jobs
  • Have a successful G.I.R.L. gathering
  • Promote this blog
  • Come up with ideas for articles

Now, on to goals for July:

Ultimate Goal: Make $300/week (or $1500 a month)

I WILL get there by:

  • Send 5 queries a week and at least 2 (total) to national magazines.
  • Look for new magazine markets.
  • Send emails to 20 businesses per week.
  • Visit businesses in Hartwell and Anderson.
  • 3-4 Demand Studios a week.
  • Send LOIs to magazines, newspapers and websites.
  • Look for writing jobs everyday.
  • Really promote fcg and write fabulous content.
  • Promote my biz and network.
  • Do better at following-up on queries.
  • Come up with new ideas and develop them.
  • Write Front-of Book pieces and send to mags.

And so it is!!! ^_^

Successful Sistas: Nita Hozey

28 06 2009

Successful Sistas is an interview series featuring successful women pursuing their dream careers.

nita hozeyJob Title: Owner of Praise Unlimited Weddings (praiseunlimitedweddings.com)

Job Description: Wedding planner, floral designer, etc.

Why did you decide to pursue this field? [I] always liked decorating and doing floral arrangements. After 21 years of being a foster parent to 91 foster children, my husband retired, and we made the decision to just do respite foster care and [allow] me to do my dream job. For the past eight years, I have run my business debt-free and [it's]growing daily.

What do you love most about your job? Helping brides make their dream wedding fit their budget.

What is the most stressful aspect of your job? Bridezillas, over controlling mothers or other family members.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job? Hearing a bride say,”It’s just what I wanted.”

What’s the craziest thing that’s happened at work? I should have known we were headed for trouble when the couple wanted beer mugs for their toasting glasses. The cake had barbed wire and cows on it, and the colors did not match. They brought in horse troughs for the beer. The mom got drunk and cursed out everyone, and the bride was crying. What were they thinking?  Many vendors did not get all their money due them. [It's] a wedding we won’t forget and sure don’t want to repeat.

Describe a typical day at work for you. Each day is different for my business. We have rentals so Monday is return and wash day for linens starting at 7 AM. Tuesday and Wednesday is meeting with brides by appointment. Thursday we start loading vans for weekend deliveries and decorating. Friday is decorating and rehearsal day. Saturday is last minute decorating and directing day.

What advice or tips would you give someone who wants to do what you do? Find someone who is successful in the business that’s not close to where you live, and ask them all the ins and outs of the business. Take a class to be certified. Try to run your business as closs to debt-free as possible.

Finish this sentence: This career is for you if___: This career is for you if you are creative and have the patience to do what your client wants and you have the flexibility of hours.

I got a secret

26 06 2009

If you know anything about me or have read a good bit of my posts, you’ll know that I’m a BIG fan of the Law of Attraction. Michael Baisden was talking about it on his show the other day- LOA and the book and DVD, The Secret.

A lot of times when people hear about ‘the secret’, they think it’s un-Christian like or that the idea is just sit around thinking about what you want and it will appear. Well both of those ideas are wrong, in my opinion. You have to do the work to get what you want.

Anyway, here are some tips on using The Secret.

Ask God/higher power/the Universe for what you want.

Believe. Act, speak and think like you’ve already recieved it.

Receive. Feel the way you’ll feel when you get what you want.

(Of course, like I said, this requires that you work by doing your part in making things happen).

Powerful Processes:

Expectation. Expect the things you want, not things you don’t want. (For example, instead of saying, ‘I don’t want to struggle with money,’ say ‘I have as much money as I want and need.’)

Gratitude. Be thankful for what you have already and more good will  come to you.

Visualization. Create images in your mind of yourself enjoying what you want.

For more info about the secret, you can get the book or DVD at a bookstore. You can also do a search online.

Flyy Fridays- Farrah Fawcett

26 06 2009

As you all, know we lost three icons this week (Rest in Peace, MJ, Farrah and Ed).

In honor of her death, I decided to make ‘Flyy Fridays’ about Farrah. She did a lot throughout her life, acting in several films and TV shows. Some of her achievements:

  • She was one of the original Charlie’s Angels.
  • She even had iconic hair- her layered hair was such a big trend with women in the U.S. that a Farrah Fawcett shampoo was created.
  • Fawcett also received a few Emmy nominations.

Here are a couple of pics I like:
